Historical Ocean Heat Uptake in Two Pairs of CMIP6 Models: Global and Regional Perspectives

چکیده

Abstract Ocean heat content (OHC) is one of the most relevant metrics tracking current global heating. Therefore, simulated OHC time series are a cornerstone for assessing scientific performance Earth system models and climate models. Here we present detailed analysis change in simulations historical (1850–2014) performed with two pairs CMIP6 models: U.K. System Model 1 (UKESM1.0) HadGEM3-GC3.1-LL, CNRM-ESM2-1 CNRM-CM6-1. The small number enables us to analyze globally individual ocean basins, making use novel ensemble observational products. For top 700 m ocean, CNRM reproduce observed since 1960s closely. Variability of ocean heat uptake: Reconciling observations and models

[1] This study examines the temporal variability of ocean heat uptake in observations and in climate models. Previous work suggests that coupled Atmosphere-Ocean General Circulation Models (A-OGCMs) may have underestimated the observed natural variability of ocean heat content, particularly on decadal and longer timescales. To address this issue, we rely on observed estimates of heat content fr...

Evaluating the performance of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) in simulating temperature variable in Ahwaz and Abadan stations

Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...

Ocean Heat Uptake Processes : A Model Intercomparison

The quasi-equilibrium heat balances, as well as the responses to 4 3 CO2 perturbation, are compared among three global climate models with the aim to identify and explain intermodel differences in ocean heat uptake (OHU) processes. It is found that, in quasi equilibrium, convective and mixed layer processes, as well as eddy-related processes, cause cooling of the subsurface ocean. The cooling i...
